Meet Erewhon Buckwheat & Hemp

Attune Foods is proud to introduce our newest cereal – Erewhon Buckwheat & Hemp.

Our development process for this cereal began about a year back, when we had a goal of introducing new organic and gluten free grains to our customers.  We make some great rice and corn cereals right now, but we get lots of calls and e-mails asking for new varieties.  Turns out there is a whole world of exciting naturally gluten free ingredients, which offer unique health benefits and great taste.

Buckwheat is an ingredient that we absolutely love.  I grew up eating buckwheat pancakes with fresh maple syrup, and remember the unique taste quite fondly.  In spite of its name, buckwheat is naturally gluten-free. Buckwheat is not actually a grain but a pseudo-cereal from the same family as sorrel and rhubarb.  Buckwheat has a hearty and wonderful flavor that shines great in a cereal.  Complementing the buckwheat, we discovered that the nutty taste and crunch of hemp seeds makes a great partner.  While hemp seeds come from the cannabis plant, they do not impart any intoxicating properties. They are rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, and are also naturally high in protein and fiber.

The cereal stays true to our “Simple Ingredients. Simply Made.” philosophy.  We take whole organic buckwheat groats, organic brown rice kernels and organic hemp seeds and cook them until soft.  Next, we gently roll them into thin, hearty flakes. Then, we toast them and lightly sweetened them with a combination of organic maple syrup and organic brown rice syrup.  The result of these great ingredients is that each serving naturally delivers 5 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 42 grams of 100% whole grains while being certified gluten free by GIG.  Like all Erewhon cereals, Buckwheat & Hemp is non-GMO project verified.

But what’s most important is while this cereal is healthy, it tastes absolutely delicious.

We are launching Buckwheat & Hemp cereal exclusively at Whole Foods Markets beginning September 2012.

We hope you’ll try it soon.
