1. If your blog had a mission statement, what would it be?
My blog’s mission is to encourage healthier eating by offering information that people can use every day, simple from-scratch recipes and tips from my kitchen. The secondary mission of my blog is to help show those on special diets just how much wonderful food exists beyond dairy, eggs, soy, and even gluten.
2. Who inspires you to live a healthier life?
Definitely the men in my life. The ability to live everyday to the fullest with my husband is the biggest driving factor in my quest to stay healthy. But, my interest in health began with my father. The fact that he still loves running several days a week, eats healthy, and looks 15 years younger than his age, is beyond inspiring.
3. What’s a great piece of advice you’ve received about living a healthy life?
I can’t say I always do, but listen to your body. When trying to assess why I wasn’t feeling well a few years ago, my doctor said to pay close attention to how I felt 30 minutes to an hour after eating any food. Did it give me energy or did it give me a stomachache? This simple advice not only worked, but it made me realize how easy it is to ignore our body’s natural cues. Now, when I’m feeling out of whack, I take a step back and try to assess what isn’t working. The answer is often something simple like taking a complete timeout, getting some exercise, or lightening up my mid-day meal.
4. What is your favorite attune foods product?
If I had to pick just one, I would say the Erewhon Organic Strawberry Crisp Cereal. Those lightly-sweetened crispy corn and rice flakes put processed cereals to shame, and the strawberries are like icing on the breakfast cake. It still amazes me that this gluten-free goodie has just six all-natural ingredients!
